Indian writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar wins Richard Dawkins Award 2020
KATHMANDU: India’s well-liked writer-lyricist has received the Richard Dawkins Award 2020, and he couldn’t be extra honoured.
“I’m deeply honoured to obtain the Richard Dawkins Award 2020. I’ve admired Richard Dawkins ever since I learn his first ebook The Selfish Gene. I’ve since then learn each ebook of his and The God Delusion is my absolute favorite,” IANS quoted Akhtar as saying on his win.
“To have my title included within the distinguished checklist of the earlier recipients similar to Bill Maher and Christoper Hitchens is fulfilment of a dream I had not even seen,” he added.
Akhtar turns into the one Indian to have received the award until date.
The Richard Dawkins Award, named after the English evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, has been introduced since 2003 and is bestowed upon people who “publicly proclaim the values of secularism, rationalism, upholding scientific fact”. Bill Maher, Stephen Fry and Ricky Gervais are another names which were bestowed with the award.
